New Media in Art Ch 4
The piece that really caught my attention was a piece called A Sudden Gust of Wind by Jeff Wall, and that is because this piece used digitally technology effectively, and is done very well (Rush 190). Book author Michael Rush, doesn't do a good job of describing how Wall used digital technology, so I did some research because to me it looks like just a single photograph that doesn't appear to be tampered with, but I then find out after some research, that Wall's A Sudden Gust of Wind took about a year to compile the 100 photographs needed for the montage, which is very astounding. I am really impressed with the capabilities of digital technology, and this is something that I would like to be involved with in my future career, particularly with video or even animation. Also on page 202 and 203, Rush discuses digital artist Paul Pfeiffer, and his works like JOHN 3:16 and Fragment Of A Crucifixion, and I was blown away by what he did on JOHN 3:16; Rush says that Pfeiffer worked on 5,000 individual frames to focus specifically on the ball, now that is a lot of work! (202-03). Also Pfeiffer's piece called Fragment Of A Crucifixion, and find it interesting how he edited everything out except for one player, I can't imagine how much time it must of took edit each individual frame, but to me, that looks like it would have been fun, since I do like to play around with video editing and photo editing (Rush 202-203).
